Laying Ready Lawn Correctly
Laying ready-made lawn may seem like a simple thing, and in fact it is if you follow a few precautions and if you are a bit familiar with DIY.
We at Prato Erboso On Line show you 3 simple steps below to ensure the optimal installation of your ready-made lawn.
- PHASE 1 - PREPARING THE GROUND
The elimination of pest species can essentially occur in two ways.
The first consists of using a total herbicide with foliar absorption, containing the active ingredient Glyphosate at a dose of 100 ml diluted in 4/5 litres of water for every 100 square metres.
Spray the solution on dry leaves and do not water and/or mow for at least 12 hours.
Once the weeds are dry, you can proceed to the next stages of cultivation, which consists of turning the soil mechanically (using a rotary tiller, rotary tiller, or rotary cultivator) or manually (digging, hoeing), working it until a finely chopped surface layer is obtained, free of clods.
At this stage of the process, you could add a "Starter" fertilizer such as Bottos NascePrato 6-18-8 rich in phosphorus to speed up the rooting of the lawn.
We then proceed with raking to eliminate any weed residue, old lawn, clods or large stones.
This operation will also allow you to level the installation ground. Once this is done, it will be useful to roll the soil to compact and further level it.
- PHASE 2 - LAYING THE LAWN
We recommend having the lawn delivered once the ground preparation work is complete so you can lay it as soon as you receive it. It's important that the rolled lawn doesn't sit on the pallets for too long.
Begin by evenly distributing the rolls, spacing them about 1.30-1.40 m apart, making sure to position them with the open edge on the same side. This will allow you to unroll them all in the same direction so that the narrow edges match up with the slits made by the tree spade.
Unroll the sod pieces one at a time and place them close together, making sure they fit together perfectly, leaving no gaps or overlapping. Shape the sod pieces around your plants and along the edges of your garden by cutting them with a standard serrated kitchen knife.
- PHASE 3 - MANAGEMENT OF THE LAWN AFTER INSTALLATION
To ensure better adhesion of the lawn sod to the ground, roll the lawn after watering.
Water abundantly at least once a day to keep the soil cool for the next 5/7 days.
After 7/10 days from installation, carry out the first mowing of the lawn, bringing its height back to the height it was when you laid it.
Adjust your watering according to the needs of your climate and your lawn.
