MEADOW RUST (Puccinia)
If your lawn is infected with lawn rust or you want to prevent this problem, follow these instructions:
- Provide your lawn with the necessary nitrogen, as nitrogen-deficient grass is more susceptible to rust. Regular application of a slow-release granular fertilizer will help provide your lawn with the necessary nutrients.
- Increase mowing frequency. This will help stimulate turf growth. If you maintain vigorous lawn growth, it will be mowed before spores can reach the surface of the leaves, reducing the spread of the disease.
- Collect infected grass clippings if possible.
- Water your lawn thoroughly and infrequently during dry periods to keep it healthy.
- Water the lawn in the early morning hours so that the lawn dries quickly and does not remain wet for a long time, as this increases the likelihood of rust infection.
- Aerate your lawn to improve drainage and promote air circulation
- Overseed areas seriously damaged by rust with seed mixtures that are particularly resistant to this disease.
- Reduce shaded areas, this will allow dew and humidity to evaporate more quickly.
